Amanda Lewer Showjumping Clinic 31 October/1 November .
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the show jumping clinic, many having a go at showjumping for the first time. The weather was kind to us for the weekend with the rain earlier in the week providing a lovely springy surface to jump on. Our coach Amanda thoroughly enjoyed teaching a wide variety of SEG riders and horses and it was lovely to see everyone depart their lessons with a big smile on their face. A big thank you to Wendy Hansen and David Dick from Clover Creek, Belinda Nolan and The Petherick Family for the loan of additional jump equipment which allowed Amanda to put together a wider variety of obstacles to school over. A big thank you also to the volunteers who as always helped the weekend to run smoothly and to those folks who happily moved their vehicles quickly to the designated parking area when requested to do so. Photos of the clinic will be uploaded shortly ... watch this space.

Many thanks to everyone who lent a helping hand in the setup and running on the day - it was great to see so many smiling faces and willing supporters. Thank you to our sponsors Oliver Performance and Clover Creek who kindly donated the prizes for the winners and to Amanda Lewer our coach on the day for her advice. We are all looking forward to the next jumping event!
Dressage for Dummies scores a perfect 10! 15 February 2009 After a few anxious days of heavy rain, our first educational event of the year was a great success! More than 30 enthusiastic equestrians turned out to Paradise Stud, Samsonvale to learn more about the sport of dressage.
Trisha Sellers, our club president and an A-level dressage judge, gave participants an informative session on topics such as the dressage training scale, what to expect at a competition and how to ride a basic dressage test.

Demonstrations on the day included modelling of competition attire, horse presentation and a number of ridden displays.

SEG gains a second grant from Moreton Bay Shire Council
Late in 2008, the Moreton Bay Shire Council granted SEG a further $10,000 to be spent on the upgrade of the surface of fenced area of the Denis Goodwin Reserve. This will enable the club to provide a safe venue for local and visiting equestrians for 2009 and beyond. Well done to our Fundraising Coordinator, Lyn Van Bruegel for securing this grant and a previous grant of $10,000 earlier in 2008.
A big thank you to Moreton Bay Shire Council and to Councillor Bob Millar in particular for his support.
The Samford Show Society, Polocrosse Club, Samford Riding for the Disabled, Samford & District Carriage Drivers Inc and the Samford Valley Veterinary Hospital also played key roles in helping our club to secure this grant.
Australia officially EI free! Jan 11 2009 It’s official - the world has acknowledged Australia’s status as an equine influenza free country, said Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries, Tim Mulherin.
The official recognition from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) follows a sustained surveillance and compliance effort in the 12 months since the last notified case if equine influenza on Christmas Day 2007.
The international declaration is a monumental achievement with significant economic and practical benefits for many Queenslanders.
The cost to eradicate equine influenza was significant, but what we stood to lose was even greater, and it wasn’t just one off losses. If this disease had taken hold it would have burdened the industry and horse owners every day, every season, and every year, with its continual presence.
The immediate impact of the newly declared freedom is the revocation of the requirement for mandatory event registration, and the removal of the whole of Queensland EI white zone, essentially returning Queensland the same standing it held in pre equine influenza days.
Of course, it pays to be vigilant, so owners and people working with horses are encouraged to continue to be responsible by observing good biosecurity measures when interacting with horses both at home and at any events, ensuring their horses are healthy before competing in events and to contact their vet if they suspect any infectious disease.
